At the border to the largest nature reserve in the Alps
The Hohe Tauern National Park stretches across an area of 1.856 km² and is one of the largest nature reserves in Europe and the most extensive protected area in Central Europe. Its area covers the federal states of Carinthia, Tyrol and Salzburg. Founded in 1981, it was Austria's first national park. With the Grossglockner and Großvenediger, it is home to the country's mightiest peaks, the largest glacier areas in the Eastern Alps and possibly the most amazing alpine landscape in the world.
Window to the Hohe Tauern National Park
The Kitzsteinhorn is directly at the border to the national park. Due to the direct neighbourhoods, many collaborations have evolved over recent decades. The largest joint project is Gipfelwelt 3000.
On the National Park Gallery and Top of Salzburg viewing platforms, you come face to face with the snow-covered peaks of the national park's distinctive three thousand metres high mountains. The Cinema 3000 invites to take a comfortable seat and to enjoy the award-winning film about the impressive nature around the Kitzsteinhorn. You learn interesting facts about the national park concept and the special natural treasures of the national park in the info tunnel.
